Healthy Apple Crumble Recipe [with Time Lapse Video] Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free Option

Healthy Apple Crumble Recipe gluten-free dairy-free option

For anyone that knows me, they'll know that when fall / autumn (whatever you wanna call it) rolls around, I love me some APPLE CRUMBLE.

Or apple crisp.

Again, whatever you wanna call it.

Apple crumble is so easy to make with only a few ingredients, no fancy equipment, quick, and very forgiving. So if you ever find the texture or consistency if "off", then you can simply add more oats, flour, butter, or nut milk.

This is the perfect recipe to make for Thanksgiving dessert, and it's inclusive to everyone since you can use gluten-free oats and flour, and swap the butter for coconut oil to make it dairy-free and vegan.

You'll also notice that instead of white sugar, we use maple syrup and coconut sugar. Pure maple syrup is an unrefined source of sugar, and coconut sugar (in place of white or brown sugar) is lower on the glycemic index. Many traditional crumble / crisp recipes will call for an additional 1 or 2 cups of white sugar in fruit desserts, since the apples contain natural sugars that are already sweet enough.

Go ahead, try the recipe below, and tell me how it goes! Leave a comment, and don't forget to share with your friends!

HEALTHY APPLE CRUMBLE RECIPE

INGREDIENTS:

Crumble Filling:

5 – 6 medium Honeycrisp apples (you can also use different baking apple varieties)

1 tbsp lemon juice

1 tbsp arrowroot powder

1 tsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp nutmeg

1/3 cup pure maple syrup

Crumble Topping:

1 1/2 cups old fashioned rolled oats (gluten-free)

1/2 cup gluten-free baking flour (like Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free 1 to 1 Baking Flour)

1/2 cup raw pecans, chopped

1/2 cup coconut sugar

1 tsp pure vanilla extract

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp fine sea salt

1/4 cup organic grass-fed butter, melted (or sub with coconut oil)

1 – 2 tbsp unsweetened, non-dairy milk (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a round or square 8 x 8’ baking dish.

2. Prep your apple filling and spread evenly in the baking dish.

3. Prep your crumble topping. Adjust accordingly by adding more oats / flour or more

butter / non-dairy milk as needed until it’s a nice crumbly texture. With your hands, sprinkle it on top of the filling until covered.

4. Bake for 45 minutes or until golden brown (just put a baking sheet underneath the dish so it doesn’t bubble over)! You can broil at the end for 2 minutes to add a golden brown crisp texture.

ENJOY!
